Grupo Micolóxico Galego
Grupo Micolóxico Galego “Luis Freire” (GMG) is a scientific, non-profit mycology association based in Galicia, NW Spain, dedicated to the study, conservation and dissemination of fungal biodiversity. Founded on May 9, 1992 in Lourizán (Pontevedra), with Dr. Luis Freire García elected as its first president, the group has grown into one of the region’s leading organizations for field mycology and ecological research.
GMG promotes mycological knowledge through regular field excursions, scientific collaborations, public outreach and its annual journal Mykes, which publishes research articles, species reports and conservation studies related to fungi and the natural environment of Galicia and North Portugal. With a focus on macromycetes and fungal ecology, GMG connects amateur enthusiasts and professional mycologists to deepen understanding of fungal life and sustainable ecosystem practices.
